                                        Sports Massage

The emphasis of sports massage is to work on particular muscle groups to improve their condition.  It is a more active form of massage in that you, the client, have to participate in the massage.   You maybe be asked to change positions from lying on your back to lying on your side.  You maybe asked to actively stretch or hold a particular muscle group or joint.  At the end of a session, you might feel that you have had a workout!
Sports massage helps the sports/keep fit person to maintain their competitive performance and helps to prevent the occurrence of muscle strains and other tissue injuries.  The massage is targeted towards the muscle groups that are affected by the sporting activity.  Frequently the massage may be uncomfortable as areas of tightness/adhesions are addressed.  Doing this work, however, helps to keep muscle tissue healthy condition and less prone to injury.

Massage in sport can be used pre-event, post-event, as part of the training program (maintenance), or as part of rehabilitation
                                        .
Pre-event massage forms part of the warm-up routine prior to the sports event.

Post-event massage helps to shorten the recovery time and lessen
                                        delayed muscle soreness.

Maintenance massage addresses the primary muscle groups involved in sporting activities.  This will help relieve areas of tension and prevent possible injury.

Rehabilitation massage helps with recovery after an injury.  The massage helps to reduce swelling, improves the condition of the affected tissues, limits the formation of fibrous adhesions, so that healing is quicker.  The injured tissue becomes stronger.
