                                        Which bodywork therapy?

Why provide a range of massage therapies?

                                        Bodies are different

A therapy that helps one person may not be right for someone else.  For instance, some people like very deep work as they think there is "no gain without pain".  Others find this approach too painful.  They may avoid having a massage as they think that massage is painful.

This is not my approach.  The therapy used for a session should be comfortable for you, the client.  Only you know your body!

                                        Bodies change over time

The massage session that was right for you on one occasion, might not be right for you on another occasion.

For instance, if you have just suffered a muscle strain or bruise, the massage session will be modified for an acute injury.  An acute tissue injury is characterised by pain, swelling, and heat.  The injured area will initially require more gentle work to help reduce any swelling.  In some cases, only the surrounding tissues will be worked on to help reduce localised swelling.  On a following visit, and as the tissue recovers, more targeted work can be done on the area to promote healing.

If you have a chronic condition, a different approach will be taken.  The tissue in the affected area is likely to be fibrotic with tight connective tissue and muscles may be shortened and tight.  These areas need to be released.   Deeper work will be needed to effect this change.  Stretches maybe incorporated into the massage session to help lengthen tight muscles.

Having a therapist trained in a range of therapies available means the therapy that is  most suitable for you, at this moment in time, can be selected.

                                        Types of massage/bodywork

The treatments range from being very gentle and soothing (such as the Bowen Technique) to being quite strong and possibly uncomfortable (the Rossiter System).

Some treatments can be done through the clothing:
                                        Bowen, Rossiter, chair massage, rhythm/mobility.

Some treatments maybe done using oils or lotions such as sports and therapeutic massage.

Some treatments are done on the skin and without lotion such as myofascial release.

                                        Which bodywork technique for you?

Some people know what therapy they want.  (Please note that depending on your medical history/condition, some techniques may be not be appropriate.)

Not sure? Have a look at the
therapy list.  Is there one that you like the sound of and would like to try?

Still not sure and just want to get out of pain?  That is fine.  On the first visit, I do a health screening review.  Based on this information, I'll discuss various approaches with you.  I will then design a bodywork session to suit your current needs.  Does that sound good to you?   Then
contact me to set-up that appointment.
