The Dorn Method, a gentle way to work on the spine

The Dorn Method is a simple technique that was developed in Germany more than 35 years ago.
The approach is based on the belief that a lot of pain is due to joints going "out of alignment". Rather than using force to "crack" joints back into place such as might be used by a chiropractic, the therapist uses the client's own movements to help joints move back into place. This approach is easier on the client as well as on the therapist.
In fact, the ethos of the Dorn Method is that the client is responsible for their own health. Therefore to recover, the client must work with the therapist to help re-balance their body. In addition, there are self-help exercises the therapist will give the client so that they can help "correct" themselves.
The Dorn Method places great emphasis on balance and alignment of the body. The areas where structures may not be balanced or may be out of alignment include the legs, the hips, and, of course, the spine. To re-align any joint, the therapist provides gentle resistance at a joint. The client is then instructed to do a simple movement (such as swinging the arms back and forth) a couple of times.
The Dorn Method focuses particularly on the back. Each vertebra of the spine from the lumbar area up to and including the neck is given a gentle workout. Any stiffness in the back is gently eased.
